Academic Tour | Charlotte Bosseaux
Thursday 13 February, 5.15pm

Charlotte Bosseaux is a Professor of Audiovisual Translation Studies at the University of Edinburgh. She researches voice in translation and her work spans different fields including literary translation and audiovisual translation. Charlotte currently writes on documentaries examining how the voices of survivors of Gender-Based Violence and trauma are translated in this context. She has recently co-created and co-produced a multilingual documentary Surviving Translation (Bosseaux and Lee, 2023) featuring women who have gone through traumatic events and whose first language is not English. With her expertise on voice, gender-based violence and trauma in translation, Charlotte will consider three main points of entry into Gabrielle Goliath's Personal Accounts: voice and positionality; language and meaning; and translation and subjectivity, helping us reflect on the language of the exhibition, the subjective elements of all interpretation, and the voices behind the stories.
