Monday 25 May, 2:30pm
Rahul Sambaraju is Lecturer in Psychology at City St George's, University of London, who examines interactional practices of categorization and the negotiation of identities and social exclusion. This tour will start with a general overview of the main factors that are important to a person’s identity. As the tour starts surrounded by the work of Malgorzata Mirga-Tas it will talk about possible similarities between the Roma and other marginalized communities across the world. It will then focus on the work of Amol K Patil and the politics surrounding Dalit identity. Taking in his installation Who is invited to the city? Rahul will give some examples of how this identification can be particularly challenging for individuals and relate it to Patil’s drawings and sculptural works. Before entering the installation of MADEYOULOOK we will then consider the tactics through which people can creatively shape, reject or shift their identities through critical projects.
