Talbot Rice Gallery is proud to present a lecture on the work of Qiu Zhijie by Charles Esche, Director of the Van Abbemuseum in The Netherlands
Qiu Zhijie’s exhibition at Talbot Rice, created specifically for the gallery’s iconic Georgian Gallery, is the artist’s first major exhibition in the UK. Designed as both archaeological dig, and expanded map, the exhibition showcases Qiu’s calligraphy and painting practice and his work to reform connections; between past, presents and future; different cultures, disciplines and languages.
Having staged the first comprehensive overview of Qiu’s work at the Van Abbemuseum in 2017, including the acquisition of several of his works into the collection and an associated publication, Charles Esche is uniquely positioned to explore the remarkable practice of one of the most important Chinese artists of his generation.
