Friday Tour | Jarita Holbrook
12.30 pm on Friday 28 January, 2022
This week we will be joined by Astronomer Jarita Holbrook, who will ask us to think about the unseen. Focusing on celestial connections, the tour will expand upon the ultraviolet world of Over the Air and Undergound to reflect upon the important role light plays in disclosing parts of the universe. Then, looking at the Serpent constellation, it will introduce stories behind the naming of the stars, emphasise the extra-terrestrial nature of the collections’ items and introduce alternative ways of imagining the origin of the cosmos. Lastly, the tour will look at Over Land and Sea – which features the Atlas maritimus (1675) – to think about the different ways we project onto the world.
