Book Event

Join us for a special student-led event as part of Welcome Week.

We’ll start with a 30 minute tour of the current exhibition, featuring some of Wael Shawky’s stunning marionettes made from Murano glass and their beautifully detailed costumes and accessories. We will then take part in a creative workshop inspired by Wael Shawky’s work, where you’ll use Murano glass beads, fabric and wire to design and make your own accessory – including (but not limited to!) bracelets, necklaces, rings – it’s all up to your imagination.

It's a great chance to meet other new students, chat with gallery staff, and get hands-on with materials inspired by the exhibition. All necessary materials and equipment will be provided, feel free to bring your own beads or findings if you want to personalise your piece!

Spaces are limited, so if you can no longer come, please cancel your ticket so someone else can take your space.

If you have specific accessibility needs, please let us know when you register or contact us directly at info.talbotrice@ed.ac.uk to discuss further. A visual storyboard is available to download here and a sensory map here to help anticipate your travels to the gallery and your experience of the exhibition.
