In this workshop, we welcome Ross Dickson, from Trading Zone 2025 for a World Building session in the gallery. Ross' artwork The Subterrain’s Nomadic Soul reflects a fascination for ancient sites, with Dickson using their sense of mystery, scale and strange energies as an artistic medium.

Ross Dickson’s artwork explores the enigmatic forces of archaeological sites, intentionally loosing perspective of the scales and timeframes that link his object and video environments. In this playful world-building session, participants will meet the artist and have an introduction to his Trading Zone 2025 installation The Subterrain’s Nomadic Soul, including a description of some of the techniques he used to make it. Using literal sandboxes, everyone will create their own microscopic or macroscopic landscape, reflecting on the cultural and geological forces that might have shaped them. Creating a postcard picture and a museum label for each world, the group will discuss ideas related to scale, interpretation, the politics of display and questions about what we can and cannot know looking at artefacts.
