Bringing in experts from across the University of Edinburgh and beyond, this series of lunchtime tours enables a deeper exploration of some of the complex issues raised in Borderlines. Each week, a specialist from a different field will join us to expand upon the themes of select artworks, navigating week by week through cast-collecting, indigenous cultures, marine environments and geological ages.

Geologists Eimear Deady and Dr Gillian McCay will talk about changes in the make-up of the Earth over large periods of time. From the drying up and flooding of the Mediterranean to the Zechstein Sea, they will discuss the shifting patterns of commodities beneath our feet. Using Mona Vatamanu & Florin Tudor’s 'Le monde et les choses (The world and the things)' as a point of departure, they will focus on the work of Ruth E Lyons, Rossella Biscotti, Lara Almarcegui and – owing to a personal connection to Ireland – Willie Doherty.
