Friday Tour | Richard Williams

This week Richard Williams, Professor of Contemporary Visual Cultures, will offer an introduction to the work of architect Lina Bo Bardi. Céline Condorelli’s exhibition After Work includes a number of references to Bo Bardi’s projects and this tour will focus on the iconic SESC Pompéia cultural centre (represented in the exhibition by a scale wall-drawing of one of its windows) and the Museu de Arte de São Paulo (Condorelli includes one of Bo Bardi’s perspective drawings of the project). Based on direct experience of these buildings, the tour will reflect upon how these spaces activate visitors and promote different types of encounter with culture. With a detour into some of the legacies of modernism, it will also support a discussion about how different approaches to architecture engender different types of political and public space.
