At stake in Tako Taal’s artistic practice are the psychic structures of colonial relations, and the question of how vivid they remain in the present. Guided by familial experience her practice fills gaps in a recent past in the belief that the labour undertaken to occupy these lacuna critical to their understanding.  

 

Tako Taal is an artist, filmmaker and programmer. She was a 2019 RAW Academy fellow at RAW Material Company, Dakar and a Committee Member at Market Gallery, Glasgow, 2016-18. She lives in Glasgow. 

Her video work was in competition at the 14th Berwick Film and Media Arts Festival, Glasgow Short Film Festival and has been screened across the UK and internationally at Galerie de l’UQAM, Montreal. Recent exhibitions include, A Spoon is the Safest Vessel, Glasgow Women’s Library, 2019, Inherited Premises, Grand Union, Birmingham 2018 and Compound, Intermedia Gallery, CCA Glasgow 2017.
